Bamiyan: The Iconic Chinese Family Restaurant

Bamiyan is a Japanese chain restaurant where you can enjoy authentic Chinese cuisine.
Japan has a variety of Chinese restaurants, such as authentic Chinese food and Japanese-style Chinese restaurants. Among them, Bamiyan is famous as a chain restaurant where you can enjoy authentic Chinese cuisine.

Let me show you Bamiyan’s authentic Chinese cuisine.

◯Bamiyan’s dishes

•Peking duck(¥549)

Peking duck is one of the most famous Chinese dishes. It is a traditional dish from Beijing, China.

It features crispy roasted duck, cucumber, scallions, and hoisin sauce wrapped in a thin, crepe-like wrapper and served for eating.

The flavor comes solely from Hoisin sauce, so the other ingredients are not seasoned.
Hoisin sauce has a sweet flavor, complementing the thin, chewy skin and juicy, tender duck meat.
Bamiyan is the only Chinese restaurant chain I can think of that serves Peking duck.

•Mapo Musashino(Mapo Tofu)(¥626)

Mapo Tofu is also one of the most representative dishes in Chinese cuisine. Mapo Musashino refers to the original Mapo Tofu from Bamiyan.

It tastes light at first, but the heat from the spices kicks in later. It contains minced pork and tofu and has a thick and rich texture.

Mapo Tofu often has a spicy, savory, and slightly numbing flavor.
It comes from the spiciness of chili peppers and the numbing heat of Sichuan peppercorns. (Sichuan peppercorns are a spice that brings a numbing sensation.) Mapo Musashino, in addition to those two spices, uses doubanjiang (spicy bean paste) and tianmianjiang (sweet bean sauce).” As a result, Mapo Musashinocreate has sweetness and richness in flavor.

By the way, Musashino is the name of a place in Tokyo. Bamiyan’s headquarters are located there, and the dish was named Musashino because it was developed there.

•Xiao long bao(¥384)

Xiao long bao is a snack in Chinese cuisine. It is a dish made by steaming Minced pork filling wrapped in a thin wheat flour skin, characterized by the soup inside.

The reason why it has soup inside is because the filling is made by mixing minced pork with a gelatin called ‘nikogori,’ which is created by cooling and solidifying pork broth. So the inside is piping hot, with the concentrated umami flavor of the pork. Usually, it is eaten dipped in vinegar or soy sauce. It is often served with ginger. Of course, you can also enjoy the juicy texture and umami of the pork by eating it as it is.

Due to the broth inside, it is placed on a spoon called a ‘lotus flower spoon’ to prevent spillage and is eaten carefully. The soup is very hot, so you might burn yourself if you try to eat it all at once… Please be careful!!

Some Chinese tea(¥219~¥499)

You can enjoy various types of Chinese tea at Bamiyan!!

You can make hot Chinese tea yourself by brewing it in a teapot.

At the drink station, pour hot water into a teapot and place a tea bag inside.

Brewing your own Chinese tea is a delightful experience.
